Edward T. Lewis, Ph.D.
Dr. Lewis was elected to the Wills Group Board of Directors in 1989. From 2007 to 2010, he was President and CEO of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. From 1983 to 1996, Dr. Lewis served as President of St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Under his leadership, St. Mary’s earned a top-10 value ranking from Money Magazine and was called “the best liberal arts college in the Northeast” in the U.S. News and World Report’s widely watched lists.
Prior to assuming this role, Dr. Lewis served as the Associate Dean of Cornell University’s Graduate School of Business, where he developed and oversaw the school’s well-known writing program and played a major role in strategic planning and external relations. From 1971-1973, Dr. Lewis was the Assistant Chairman of the English Department at the University of Puerto Rico. He has served as a consultant, working with colleges and universities on strategic planning, board development, fundraising, and executive search.
Dr. Lewis earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Union College. He holds a Master’s degree from Boston University and a doctorate in English Literature from the University of Denver. He has published numerous articles and poems in newspapers, magazines, and journals. He has been awarded honorary doctorates from Washington College and St. Mary’s College of Maryland. He is also a graduate of Cornell University’s Executive Development Program.
